Got shoes? Our Lexington Irish dance program will take them!

Community
While our community-based Lexington Irish dance program has had a lot of support at filling our used shoe bin over the past year, we can still use your help.  If you have lightly used or outgrown shoes you could donate, we’d be happy to have them. What do our Lexington Irish dance students need? Our students are mostly ages 4-9 and while our bin is full of itty-bitty shoes, we're looking for donations of children's sizes 10 and up. Have other sizes?  We'll be happy to accept those, too. Why do we need your donations? Currently, none of the dance supply stores in Lexington stock ghillies or hard shoes, and local competitions where vendors may be selling shoes are hours (and months) away from the start of our classes. We're also a…

Our Lexington Irish dance school gives back to the community

Our Lexington Irish dance school gives back to the community

Community, Local Events
Perspective. Experience. Community. Mission.  Not only is that what matters, but it's why our Lexington Irish dance school is stepping up to support cultural arts scholarships for students in Central Kentucky. On Saturday, July 22, we're partnering with the 2017 Kentucky Rose of Tralee, Martha Mortell, to host a fundraiser for Artworks at the Carver School.  All funds raised will be used to provide need- and merit-based scholarships for children and adults who take cultural arts classes through Lexington Parks and Recreation's programs at Artworks. Why are we doing this? Because, for us, it's about community. Our Lexington Irish dance school was welcomed into the Artworks program last year, along with other cultural arts classes such as karate instruction with Bushin Kan Dojo of Lexington, Kentucky.  We've found our home…

Our 2016-2017 class year comes to a close on Monday, but we've already got big plans for the summer and for our next class year! On Mondays from late September through December and January through April, we've welcomed children and adults into our studio. Starting a new school has been an adventure.  When I started Irish…

Why join our Lexington Irish dance community

Bluegrass Ceili Academy, Community, Irish Dance Classes in Lexington
Perspective. Experience. Community. Mission. It's what matters. It's also why you should join our Lexington Irish dance community. The area's newest community-based Irish dance school, the Bluegrass Ceili Academy brings more than two decades of Irish dance experience and ceili expertise to Central Kentucky. We're invested in our students and our community. Perspective matters. The love of dance and music knows no age limit. That's why we offer Lexington Irish dance classes for children and adults. Experience matters. While Bluegrass Ceili Academy is new,  Academy director Megan Moloney has been dancing and teaching for more than 20 years. Megan studied Irish dance for in the Washington, D.C. area beginning in 1996; began teaching adult students and teams more than a decade ago; and achieved certification with the Irish dancing commission…

Donate your shoes to Lexington Irish dance community-based program

Instruction
When Bluegrass Ceili Academy classes begin this fall at Artworks at the Carver School, it will be the first time our community-based Lexington Irish dance program welcomes students.  It will also be the first time in a number of years that Irish dance has been offered through Lexington Parks and Recreation. We're excited to get started, but we need your help to do so! Since we're new to the Lexington irish dance community, with no previous dancers around, there's no "used shoe bin" for our students. To get our new students dancing, Bluegrass Ceili Academy is seeking donations of all sizes of lightly used and outgrown Irish dance shoes. Currently, none of the dance supply stores in Lexington stock ghillies or hard shoes, and local competitions where vendors may be…

[caption id="attachment_321" align="alignright" width="750"] Join the Lexington Irish dance community April 24 at ArtsPlace[/caption] Bluegrass Ceili Academy is the newest member of the Lexington Irish dance community and we couldn't be more excited about participating in this Sunday's Centennial Ceili at ArtsPlace.  This year, 2016, is the 100th anniversary of Ireland's Easter Rising.  In February this year, the Irish dancing commission in Dublin, An CoimisiĂşn le RincĂ Gaelacha, asked its member schools to come together and host local dance events in their communities. "We envisage a grand non-competitive, no costume cĂ©ilĂ taking place worldwide, preferably on April 24th involving as many people as possible: dancers, families and friends," CLRG asked. In the Lexington Irish dance scene, two schools are affiliated with CLRG -- the Kentucky McTeggart Irish Dancers, who have been…
